The Ramsay Report

October 20, 2014

Sunday morning started off cool and cloudy and then turned into a bright sunny day!  There were 8 people at the 8:00 am service and 73 in attendance at the 10:00 am service. It was the Nineteenth Sunday After Pentecost.  The Processional Hymn was, “Praise To The Living God” and the Sequence Hymn was, “O God Of Earth And Altar.”  The Gospel Reading was from Matthew 22:15-22.  The Pharisees went and plotted to entrap Jesus in what he said. So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and teach the way of God in accordance with truth, and show deference to no one; for you do not regard people with partiality. Tell us, then, what you think. It is lawful to pay taxes to the emperor, or not?” But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why are you putting to the test, you hypocrites? Show me the coin used for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius. Then he said to them, “Whose head is this, and whose title?” They answered, “The emperor’s.” Then he said to them, “Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” When they heard this, they were amazed; and they left him and went away.  We learned from this that we must give back to God and to those around us, the gifts that God has bestowed upon each and everyone one of us. As we prepare for our upcoming feast day, All Saints’ Day, and our Stewardship Every Member Canvass, think and remember how we can all give our time, talent and treasure!  The Communion Hymns were, “In Your Mercy, Lord You Called Me” and “Judge Eternal, Throned In Splendor.”  The Recessional Hymn was, “All My Hope On God Is Founded.”

The Coffee Hour was bustling with laughter and chatter, as our parishioners caught up with each other.  The Coffee Hour was hosted by Erma and John Sommer, and was a memorial and celebration of the life of their son, Riley Christopher Abdelnour, who passed away last year.  There was an abundance of cake, cookies, fruit, canapés and wraps for all to enjoy with their coffee and tea.

The Events Committee met in the Christian Service room to plan future events.  Present were chairperson Tom Ramsay, Father Byrne, Nancy Benedict, Francesca Bergenn, Stella Elder, Karen Friedl, Kem Rutledge, Jane Sandrowsky, Nina Selvaggio and Paul Walton.  They discussed having the making of Advent Wreaths along with a Pot-Luck lunch on November 30th after the 10:00 am service, which was agreed upon. Defensive Driving and Yard Sale was mentioned to do again.  A Mother’s Day Flea Market was suggested and Stella indicated maybe just selling plants on the front lawn. This will be discussed further. Stella then suggested doing a dance and it was agreed to do a St. Valentine’s Day Dinner/Dance for adults. Francesca will check into a DJ.  Further information will follow.  Father Byrne mentioned about starting the Supper Club up again, since it has not been done since the July 4th 2013 steak dinner. This will be planned for in the future.  The meeting adjourned at 12:15 pm.

We need a number of donations: large baskets for various theme baskets, bottles of cheer, etc to fill the baskets; jewelry and boxes for the Jewelry Corner; baked goods; treasures for Elsie’s Corner, and more. Watch the bulletin boards for updates.  There will be a meeting on Sunday November 9th after the 10:00 am service.  The Ingathering and Holly Bazaar set-up will take place on Sunday November 16th, following Coffee Hour.

Have a wonderful week and see everyone next Sunday or better yet, Friday at the Spaghetti Dinner or Saturday at the Fall Clean-Up!
