The Ramsay Report

March 20, 2017

It was a busy weekend at All Saints’!  Saturday morning The Events Committee came up to prepare for the St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon. Tom Ramsay arrived and set up the tables and then put on the tablecloths. Carol Crowe, Stella Elder, Sally Bergmeyer and Jack Oshier then arrived and the room and tables were decorated.  Diane Obiol then arrived and she, Stella and Sally went off for their Altar Guild training session. Joe Gonzalez arrived followed by Drew Elder, Ed and Nancy Benedict. The plates and silverware were brought over from the Parish House and the tables were set. Ed, meanwhile, was busy outside shoveling and salting the driveway. The crew then went over to the Parish House and Carol, Drew and Joe peeled the carrots and Tom scrubbed the potatoes. The finishing touches were done, the training session was over and the last of the shoveling was done. It was once again, great teamwork and stewardship at work! Meanwhile, Father and Susan Byrne, Herve Monfiston, Kem Rutledge, Lois Pagliaro, Olive Demetrius and Pat Walton, represented All Saints’ at the 70th Anniversary of Camp DeWolfe Luncheon Fundraiser.

Sunday morning was cool and sunny.  Tom Ramsay arrived at 6:30 AM to start the pots for the corned beef. He then cut up the cabbage and all was ready for Stella and Drew to begin cooking.

There were 11 people at the 8:00 AM service and 71 in attendance at the 10:00 AM service. It was The Third Sunday In Lent. The Processional Hymn was, “Rock Of  Ages, Cleft For Me” and the Sequence Hymn was, “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah.”  The Gospel Reading was from John 4:5-42. See attached. We learn from this passage of the meeting with Jesus and a Samaritan woman, whom he asks for a drink of water and she is shocked that he requests this of her. They speak and he reveals what he knows about her and then she believes who is. It tells us that when we discuss and question our faith, it enables us to grow and change. The Offertory Anthem was, “Stella Maris.”  The Communion Hymns were, “The King Of Love My Shepherd Is” and “Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing.”  The Recessional Hymn was, “Eternal Lord Of Love Behold Your Church.”

The altar greenery was given by Rose Lynch and John Berry to the glory of God and in loving memeory of Clarinda Robinson. The Sanctuary lamp was given by Susan Parfrey to the glory of God and in loving memory of Marie McDonald.

The Parish House was being manned by Drew Elder during the service with assistance from Mike DellaVecchia. John Crowe, Stella Elder, Joe Gonzalez and Tom Ramsay joined them after receiving Holy Communion. The cabbage, carrots and potatoes were still cooking and the corned was ready. John, Joe and Tom began carving and putting the meat in platters and Stella covered them. The carving was done and the vegetables ready. Carol Crowe, Nina Gonzalez and Diane Obiol came over and helped bring the platters of food over to the Common Room. Everything was ready. Father Byrne said grace and it was time to dine!  There were 49 people at the luncheon and everyone enjoyed a great meal of corned beef, cabbage, carrots, cabbage, Irish Soda bread and rye bread. The meal was complete and it was time for dessert. The Monfiston family brought a wonderful birthday cake to celebrate Seth’s 17th birthday. The entire room sang Happy Birthday to him and enjoyed the delicious cake! The clean-up began. The remaining food was plated and sold, the dishes, silverware, platters and bowls washed. The new dishwasher got it first big workout! All the dishes, pots and utensils were put away and it was time to go home.  The event raised $1, 039.00!  A big thank you to everyone who came and supported the event and huge shot out to Stella and Drew Elder, for shopping and coordinating the luncheon!  Also kudos to Ed Benedict for running the 50/50 raffle and to Jack Oshier, who won the raffle and donated it back to the church. It was another fantastic weekend at All Saints’ filled with fellowship and great stewardship!

COFFEE HOUR GOING GREEN!-The new dishwasher is up and running in the Common Room kitchen, and we are (intentionally) running out of Styrofoam cups. Once the Styrofoam is gone, we do not intend to replace it. We will at some point be getting All Saints’ mugs, but until then, you are encouraged to bring in a mug or two (or six) to use here.

Have a great week and hope to see many of you on Wednesday evening at the Deanery Lenten program and if not, next Sunday!
