Good Morning All Saints’ Family,
Sunday was overcast and cool. There were 12 people at the 8:00 AM service and 52 in attendance at the 10:00 AM service. It was the Eighteenth Sunday After Pentecost. The Processional Hymn was, “God Is Love, Let Heaven Adore Him” and the Sequence Hymn was, “Lord Forever At Thy Side.” The Gospel Reading was from Mark 9:30-37.
Jesus and his disciples passed through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know it; for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again.” But they did not understand what he was saying and were afraid to ask him.
Then they came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the way?” But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest. He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.”
We learn from this passage the continuation of Jesus’ teaching the disciples and what is to come about to him. He illustrates this by taking a child, whom has no power whatsoever, and tells the disciples that if they welcome the child then they will welcome him and God as well. The Offertory Anthem was, “Benedictus es Domine.” The Communion Hymns were, “O Master, Let Me Walk With Thee” and “Sing Praise To God Who Reigns Above.” The Recessional Hymn was, “Sing, Ye Faithful, Sing With Gladness.”
The altar flowers were given by Pat Walton to the glory of God and in loving memory of her sister, Shirley E. Lally. The Sanctuary Lamp was given by Robert Earle to the glory of God and in celebration of Sharon and Robert Earle’s tenth wedding anniversary.
The Coffee Hour was, as always, filled with energy and laughter. The Coffee Hour was hosted by Jack Oshier and Ellen Russell. There were bagels, cake, cookies and fruit for all to enjoy with their favorite beverage. It was another outstanding Sunday at All Saints’!.
