Sunday morning began with some snow flurries and then turned into a beautiful sunny day. There were 10 people at the 8:00 am service and 62 in attendance at the 10:00 am service. It was the First Sunday After Epiphany:The Baptism Of Our Lord. The Processional Hymn was, “Songs Of Thankfulness And Praise” and the Sequence Hymn was, “The Sinless One To Jordan Came.” The Gospel Reading was from Luke 3:15-17, 21-22.
As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah, John answered all of them by saying, "I baptize you with water; but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire."
Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased."
We learn from this passage of the Baptism of Jesus and all whom had gathered to witness this and how his journey began and God’s praise for his Son. The Renewal of Baptismal Covenant was recited and the Offertory Anthem was, “Shall We Gather At The River.” The Communion Hymns were, “Christ, When For Us You Were Baptized” and “O Love, How Deep, How Broad, How High.” The Recessional Hymn was, “Hail To The Lord’s Anointed.” We welcomed back our organist and choirmaster, Arkady Leytush, from a well deserved vacation.
The Sanctuary Lamp was given by Nina Selvaggion to the glory of God and in loving memory of her mother, Elizabeth Selvaggio. The Vigil Lamp was given to the glory of God and in thanksgiving for Bobby Friedl’s recovery. The bread and wine of the Eucharist were given to the glory of God and in celebration of Nina Selvaggio’s birthday.
The Coffee Hour was full of energy, as usual, as our parishioners and guests greeted one another. The Coffee Hour was hosted by Rose Lynch. There were cakes, cookies, pies and rolls for all to enjoy with their coffee and tea. Meanwhile in the choir room, our ladies from the parish were having their monthly meeting. It was another busy and wonderful Sunday at All Saints’!
