The Leadership of All Saints'

Ministry

The rector of an Episcopal church is a compassionate leader who is approachable and an excellent communicator; someone with energy, humor, enthusiasm and deep Christian faith to help us grow spiritually.  The rector possesses a vision and takes the steps necessary to develop a parish community consisting of all ages by encouraging and motivating all of our parishioners.

Father Laurence G. Byrne

Rector
Father Byrne

The Rev. Laurence Goodwin Byrne was born and raised with his four siblings in Wilmington Delaware. He graduated from the Tower Hill School and went on to receive a BA, cum laude, in English from the University of Delaware. After college, he joined the faculty of The Forman School in Litchfield, Connecticut where he taught English and served in numerous other capacities. He returned to Delaware to serve as Director of Christian Education and Youth at Christ Church, Christiana Hundred.  In 1991, he entered Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia where he earned his Master of Divinity degree.  Following his ordination to the diaconate in 1994, he became Curate at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fairfield, Connecticut, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1995. In 1999, Fr. Byrne accepted the call to be Rector of The Parish of Christ’s Church in Easton, Connecticut. Later, he joined the staff of St. Paul’s in Riverside.  Throughout his ministry in Connecticut Fr. Byrne was active in the Bridgeport Deanery and in the Diocese. Fr. Byrne, his wife Susan, and their son Teddy first came to All Saints, Bayside in 2005. He was made Priest-in-Charge in December of 2005, and was elected Rector in January of 2011.

Vestry

The vestry of an Episcopal church has three primary responsibilities. The first two are managerial: to take care of parish finances and the parish buildings. The third is to choose individuals to fill various positions of leadership and representation, including the choice of delegates to the diocesan convention.  The vestry also serves as an advisory council to the rector who by church law is the parish’s chief liturgical and pastoral officer.
